Stand Up and Take Action Against Poverty Event
On October 16, 17 and 18, 2009 millions of people around the world will “Stand Up and Take Action” against poverty and for the Millennium Development Goals. The mobilization will send a clear message to world leaders that we refuse to be silent in the face of ongoing poverty and inequality.
Stand Up & Take Action, coordinated by the UN Millennium Campaign and the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP), is a global event in which citizens urge their leaders to keep their promises to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.
On Friday, October 16th, the Social Reform Unit at FST will be participating in Make Poverty History’s Stand Up and Take Action event. This will consist of a representative from the Social Reform Unit (at each of the Church, Lawrence and Warden offices) showing a short video clip and leading a pledge from participants to support eradicating poverty and the UN’s Millennium Development Goals. Pledge numbers will be counted and sent to Make Poverty History. The goal is to surpass last year’s Guinness world record breaking 116 million signatures supporting these goals.
The Stand Up pledge will take no longer than 10-15 minutes. A light snack will be provided. This event is open to all FST staff, clients, students, volunteers and community partners who wish to attend. Further information is provided below.
