Help FST Win the Aviva Community Fund contest!

Insurance provider Aviva Canada has launched a campaign to support ideas that will have a positive impact on communities across Canada. The community ideas that win the most votes have the chance to be funded by Aviva’s $500,000 community fund.

FST needs at least 10,000 votes for our project to rise above the others! Voting ends November 15, 2009.

What is FST’s idea?

FST has proposed an idea called NewsAtlas. It is an online map and directory, using COMAP software, that connects people in a neighbourhood with each other and with local businesses, activities, events and resources. Fifty percent of the ad revenue from local businesses on the site will be redistributed to participating local community organizations, and the other 50% will got toward maintaining and improving the site.

With NewsAtlas, people interested in visiting Muskoka, patronizing commercial services in Toronto or booking accommodation for the Pan-Am Games will be able to view ads on the map and connect with local accommodation, restaurants, retail outlets, etc. Through this project everyone benefits! Visitors to the website find useful information. Advertisers benefit by having their ads displayed alongside wanted content. Participating community organizations win by having additional funds from the site to help them carry out their work to improve communities… which means we all benefit!

How can you help?

All you need to do is VOTE! (And vote often if you can before November 15!) Voting is simple.

  1. Go to the NewsAtlas idea page on the Aviva website. (http://www.avivacommunityfund.org/ideas/acf1451)

  2. If you haven’t voted before, you will have to register (one time only - top right button). You will be asked to provide an email address, a password and a screen name.

  3. Click on the blue “Cast a Vote!” button at the top right.

Once you have done that, congratulations, you have successfully voted for FST! Thank you! Please revisit the site to vote for NewsAtlas and pass this on to your friends and family.
