2010 Rosemarie Popham Family Advocacy Award

April 28, 2010

Created in 1999, this award is given by Family Service Toronto to an individual or organization for their outstanding contributions in advocacy work for children and families in Canada.

Rosemarie Popham was a well-known child and family advocate who campaigned for the eradication of child poverty.  She was Director of Social Action for FST for many years and the co-founder and national coordinator of Campaign 2000.  Thanks to her leadership and devotion, Campaign 2000 has helped create national-wide awareness of child poverty in Canada, contributing substantially to federal and provincial initiatives such as the National Child Benefit Program and the National Children’s Agenda.  For her work, Rosemarie was awarded, posthumously, with the Governor General’s Meritorious Service Medal (M.S.M.) in 1999.

This award honours her outstanding contribution to the well-being of children and families in Canada.  It recognizes exceptional contributions made to advocacy and social policy development.

The Rosemarie Popham Family Advocacy Award 2010 will be presented at the Family Service Toronto’s Annual General Meeting in Toronto, on Wednesday, June 9th, 2010.
