History

Senior Moments Team
Started in 2004 , Senior Moments is an initiative of FST's Seniors Advisory Council (SAC). The SAC's role is to advise FST- Seniors and Caregivers unit about issues regarding seniors and caregivers, and propose new activities and programs that could benefit our clients and Toronto seniors in general.
Initially, in 2004, SAC conducted a survey including seven groups of seniors who were asked about issues affecting them. The result: seniors are actively seeking to make their issues known and to learn more about both positive and negative aspects of aging. Senior Moments, a project by SAC, was created to respond to this need.
Senior Moments' goal is to discover and share positive and negative aspects of aging from a senior's perspective. The project is carried out by volunteer members of SAC who are available to meet with groups of community members interested in learning about how aging affects the lives of seniors.
What is the Senior Moments Team offering?

We all need help sometimes

Limited access for seniors or people with disabilities
Upon request the Senior Moments Team will deliver an interactive presentation in which seniors learn about issues that matter most to them:
- life changes
- emotional changes
- family changes
- discrimination
- government services
- accessibility issues
- resources for seniors
- cultural differences
- public portrayal of seniors
The presentation usually runs for an hour or more if needed. The team facilitates activities that help people learn more about aging: from negative aspects (such as physical limitations, service needs, ageism, etc. ) to positive aspects (old age pension, special privileges, respect for elders, etc.)
