Counselling Supports for Seniors

Clinical Services Offered for Older People who are Abused

The Seniors and Caregivers Support Services Unit at Family Service Toronto provides clinical social work services to older people experiencing abuse. Counsellors may also work with caregivers and/or family members concerned about an older relative who may be abused.

The following services are offered:

Counselling
Connecting to community resources
Caregiver support and counselling
Caregiver education
Crisis intervention
Safety planning
Individual client education
Individual advocacy
Group based programming
Caregiver Support Groups
Supporting Self-help Groups

Eligibility for service includes:

Client lives or works in Toronto
Age 60 years of age or older or a person with a disability or chronic illness 50 years of age or older (exceptions are made on a case by case basis)

Clinical consultations for service providers

Telephone based consultations will be provided, on request, when service providers want to discuss cases of abuse. This service is available across the province.

Elder Abuse Consultation Team

The multi-disciplinary team meets once a month to discuss cases of abuse. Cases are brought forward to the team in an anonymous manner. Consultations are provided face to face or via teleconference.

Fee Structure

All clinical services provided to clients and service providers are free of charge.

Educational workshops and training for service providers are based on an hourly rate. Fees will be negotiated to meet individual circumstances.
