Hide this Site

Growing older isn't always easy. It can bring new challenges, such as the devastating loss of a partner or close friend, a feeling of financial insecurity and physical changes. If you are concerned for yourself or someone you care about, we can help.

Family Service Toronto's highly trained and experienced counsellors make it easy for you to access our services. You can come to our office for individual or group meetings, talk to a trained counsellor by telephone or, in exceptional circumstances, arrange for a home/community visit. Services can be provided in English and Spanish.

Counselling for Seniors

"The Seniors and Caregivers Support Unit helped me through a difficult time when I lost two friends, and a sister and a brother in one year. Receiving counselling and sharing my feelings with other seniors were lifesavers for me"

As an older adult you can count on us to help you get the support you need. We provide counselling services for a variety of issues such as:

  • Dealing with chronic or degenerative illness
  • Stress in family relationships
  • Bereavement
  • The uprootedness and difficulty of adapting to a new culture at an advanced age
  • Caregiver stress
  • Elder abuse

Counselling for Caregivers

"As a single parent trying to juggle the demands of three young children, a full-time job and an aging parent, the groups gave me the knowledge, strengths and coping skills to carry on. "

As the caregiver of an aging parent, relative or friend, our trained counsellors will help you:

  • Deal with caregiver stress, anger and guilt
  • Learn important communication techniques
