Congratulations on the launch of Pat's Place
Dear Lisa,
It is with great pleasure that the Ontario Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse congratulates Family Service Toronto on the launch of Pat's Place.
It is unfortunate that there is a need for such a place in our society, but we are tremendously proud and grateful to have the leadership and commitment of Family Service Toronto to lead this endeavor. The Family Service Toronto team has demonstrated excellent skills in the delivery of programs to seniors in this very unique and under-resourced community, one that still has a long way to go in building a truly meaningful and effective elder abuse prevention and intervention infrastructure. We anticipate that his is just the beginning of many more safe environments to become available for abused seniors in the GTA.
The Ontario Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse has recognized the need for Pat's Place as an intermediate solution towards securing the personal safety of seniors. However, much work still needs to be done to advance elder abuse awareness and prevention efforts. ONPEA and our staff are committed to working with Family Service Toronto to continue to build capacity in the community, through education and service coordination so that older adults can remain safe in their own homes and communities.
I am in Ottawa to attend the Elder Abuse Awareness Day Conference and wished I could have congratulated Lisa and her staff in person. But this is the next best thing. ONPEA hopes that this is one among many new opportunities to be provided to seniors in Toronto so that they may live their lives free from abuse. We look forward to our continuing work together toward the elimination of elder abuse for all seniors.
Thank you.

To: DR. Lisa Manuel,
Family Services Toronto
What a marvelous way to celebrate World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD). The launch of Toronto's first safe haven is a truly miraculous and inspiring event that is a tribute to you personally and to Family Service Toronto.
Your dedication, devotion and long standing involvement in the prevention of elder abuse culminates in this outstanding achievement and triumph.
On behalf of all the elder abuse community, advocates, seniors, volunteers, providers, and students, we all thank you and applaud you.
Toronto has just become a little bit safer, a little bit more understanding, a little bit more respectful of older adults in harm's way.
Congratulations to all of you who have made Pat's Place a reality. I will be celebrating with you in spirit from WEAAD events in Ottawa.
