GUHD programs:

At GUHD we work with and in various coalitions and networks to highlight the issues facing families and caregivers with children age 0 to 6. We are community focused and community driven. Download brochure (PDF format)

We offer parent relief, a variety of workshops, community kitchens as well as fitness and post-natal programs for moms and their babies. We deliver school readiness programs, reading circles and drop-ins for caregivers with their children. See below for a list of programs offered.

Program Partner Agency

1. Family Resource Program
Drop-in program for caregivers and children 0-6 in their care.

2. Queer Family Support Program
Monthly family resource program for Lesbian, Bisexual and Transsexual/Transgendered mothers and their children aged 0-6. 

3. Parent Education Workshops
Educational Workshops – offered on a one-time basis based on feedback from parents and caregivers about topics of interest to families.

1. Parent Relief
Free, short-term supervised childcare offered to families with children aged 0-6 years when parents need respite.

2. Ready to Learn
School readiness program focused on children aged 3 to 5 years who will be entering kindergarten.

3. Early Learning Drop in Programs
Drop-in program for parents, caregivers and children 0-6.

4. Workshops
Nobody’s Perfect - parent education program designated for (but not limited to) parents who are young, single and low income.

5. Childcare Training
This hands-on training program is offered to people who want to offer childcare in their home or provide occasional care in the community.

1. Tiny Tots Day Camp
A daily program delivered to children aged 3 to 5 years. The program offers social recreational programs with a particular focus on physical activity, nutrition, literacy, arts and crafts and the opportunity to explore Toronto.

2. Women’s Health Circle
Program for women utilizing a holistic approach to health including non-traditional approaches to issues such as smoking cessation, safe sexual practices and physical wellness.

3. Parent Education and Support
Program for parents focused on cultivating self-esteem and ongoing, peer-based social supports by offering workshops on a wide range of topics.

4. Family Crisis Support
Individual family support provided on an occasional, as needed basis, to families dealing with issues relating to the health and well-being of families and young children.

Structured activities which focus on development of cognitive, emotional, social, fine motor, and gross motor skills for healthy child development.

1. Family Learning Program
Pre-school children and their parents/caregivers are given the opportunity to enhance early reading, writing, math and creative skills in a welcoming environment as they engage in cognitive, fine motor, sensorial and social emotional activities.

2. Parent Relief
Program offers parents the opportunity to leave their children in the care of qualified staff for short periods of time for respite relief or so they can attend to other chores or responsibilities.

3. Music and Movement
Program combines music with physical movement for children and their parents/caregivers to enjoy together.

4. Indoor Playground
Offers parents/caregivers and children a wide range of gross motor activities that promote physical activity.

5. Ready for School
School readiness program focused on children who will be entering kindergarten.  Includes a workshop-based component for parents on a range of topics.

6. Drop-in Program
Parents/caregivers and children (0 to 6 years old) are welcome to drop in to the program and enjoy the friendly atmosphere. This program is designed to facilitate family/caregiver support where children, families and/or caregivers can interact, learn and play together.

Drop-in program for caregivers and children aged 0-6 years old. Structured/unstructured play encourages skill development in a variety of ways.

2. Yoga 4 Parents
Drop-in program for caregivers, parents, and guardians. Offers parent(s) and/or guardian(s) the opportunity to engage with themselves and others.

3. Musical Circle
Drop-in program for caregivers and children aged 0-6 years old. Structured/unstructured play encourages skill development in a variety of ways.

4. Kinder Gym
Drop-in program for caregivers and children aged 0-6 years old. Structured/unstructured play encourages skill development in a variety of ways.

5. Parent Resource Workshops
Structured parent group sessions for 1.5 hours, three times a month, in the areas of physical, social and emotional well-being of children and parents.

1. Individual Support and Referral
Individual family support provided on an occasional, as needed basis, to families dealing with issues relating to the health and well-being of families and young children.

2. Chinese Family Support Group
Weekly drop-in program for Chinese parents, Mandarin and Cantonese speaking, who have children aged 0-6, delivered in partnership with South Riverdale Community Health Centre.

3. Parent Education and Support
Outreach and connection building for parents with young children, focused on raising awareness of community resources and assisting parents to make use of existing networks and services.

4. Extended Hours Program
Early morning supervision is provided for parents who are attending post-secondary training. Parents can register to leave their children in the care of qualified staff for care before day-care or school hours.
