We offer individual, couple, family counseling and therapy at the following locations:  downtown Toronto, Scarborough, North York, South Etobicoke, and Rexdale.

The Counselling Program also offers Parent Education and Support Groups and Workshops and occasional workshops on specific issues. 

We welcome all couples and families where two or more people are committed to care for one another, whether living apart, related by blood, marriage or adoption

We offer the following:

Counselling Services can help you with:

  • how to understand and manage a wide range of emotional difficulties
  • communication with partners, children/youth, parents and others
  • developing constructive approaches to various challenges in life
  • skills to manage stress, anxiety and depression
  • developing more meaningful and useful community connections
  • dealing with relationship conflicts
  • adjusting to the immigration and refugee experience
  • coping with trauma which may include sexual or physical abuse, neglect and violence and witnessing traumatic events

Our professional staff can help you explore, understand and manage your life challenges through supportive counseling and psychotherapy. We are an approved teaching facility for the University of Toronto Faculty of Social Work. Our staff has post graduate degrees in clinical social work or other counseling related disciplines.  In our practice we use various approaches which include; solution focused therapy; trauma processing; mind/body relaxation techniques; cognitive behavioural therapy; eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR) and emotional freedom techniques (EFT).

Counselling Service Details

Fees are on a sliding scale based on household income and are designed to be accessible for all income ranges for anyone living or working in the city of Toronto. Family Service Toronto is a non-profit social service agency and fees are required to supplement the funding that we receive for this service.

Staff can provide service in Farsi, Tamil and English.  Occasionally we may provide service in other languages. Please let SAU know about your language requirements at intake.

Women’s Place - Malvern Mall as a location, 31 Tapscott Road, Scarborough

We offer a 7-8 week Connecting Families - Parent Education and Support Program each spring and fall throughout the City of Toronto.  We also offer other parenting workshops to various communities throughout the year.  Please refer to workshop schedule on website.

Counseling is meant to help people find solutions, explore options, identify strengths and needs, locate information, provide resources and promote a variety of coping strategies.  Psychotherapy can assist in treatment for psycho-social or emotional difficulties, behavioural maladaptations and/or other problems that are assumed to be of an emotional nature, where a professional relationship with the client is established to promote positive growth and development.  (Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice Handbook, Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers)
