Barney Savage

Barney is director of public policy at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, a position he has held since September 2006. The public policy unit leads CAMH’s efforts to improve the health of Ontarians by using its empirical and clinical expertise to influence public policy in areas such as alcohol and drug regulation, access to care and treatment, and housing, employment and income supports for those who live with mental health and addictions problems. Prior to his CAMH work Barney was senior policy advisor at United Way of Greater Toronto.
Barney represented United Way to government, and participated in external policy advocacy work such as the Strong Neighbourhoods Task Force, the Task Force on Modernizing Income Support for Working Age Adults (MISWAA), and Service Canada’s review of its relationship with the voluntary sector. Barney has been senior policy advisor to the Minister of Education and Training, an executive assistant at the Ontario Legislature, and a policy and planning officer in the senior administration at York University.
